Allison Stokke and Alyce Caron
Allison Stokke, born in Newport Beach California on 22 March 1989, is among America's most famous and wealthiest Pole Vaulters. A photo of her competing in a track meet for teenagers became viral in 2007 and led her to become the pole vaulter of her dreams. Instagram and Twitter are her two most viewed social networks. Stokke is well-known as a sportsperson in track and field similar as Jessica Ennis Hill. According to the Los Angeles Times, among other publications, noted that Stokke has not aspired to or sought such attention. In their book Technology Power and Culture in the Network Society Brett Hutchins and David Rowe linked Stokke's case to that of American soccer players Alex Morgan and Hope Solo women athletes who were idolized and saw their public image framed sexually in a way that the authors said de-emphasized their accomplishments in sport. In relation to Stokke they also pointed out that social media comments generally regarded as offensive in nature and attributed the process of sexualization on the women themselves. Some drew parallels with Brandi's victory celebration at the FIFA World Cup Final in 1999 wearing a sports t-shirt. Sports events for women were frequently snubbed by discussions regarding their appearance. A reporter who was on an Californian site for track and field took pictures of Stokke in New York at the beginning of 2007. The photos were published on the internet. In May, the photo was republished by With Leather a sports blog with a large male fanbase remarking on the attractiveness of the 17-year-old Stokke under the heading Pole Vaulting is Sexy Barely legal. Stokke's photographer threatened to sue owner Matt Ufford if he did remove the photo however the post had already received significant publicity and had been shared on many other websites.
